Independent household guidance

A quieter standard for eco living

We help households save money, waste less, and judge environmental product claims without pretending every problem needs a purchase.

Limits

Research is not laboratory testing.

William is not presented here as a laboratory, engineer, clinician, attorney, or certification body. Unless a page says otherwise, products have not been tested in hand. Official specifications and certifications remain claims tied to their named sources and conditions.

Start with the primary source

Public agencies, named standards, certification registries, and official product documentation come before summaries and sales copy.

Count the cost that repeats

Replacement filters, refills, electricity, maintenance, wasted inputs, and the effort a routine requires belong beside the purchase price.

Name what remains unknown

A manufacturer specification is not hands-on testing. A certification covers named conditions—not every home, hazard, or environmental outcome.

Free step first

A useful guide can tell you not to buy.

A utility report, local health department, ENERGY STAR finder, EPA registry, repair, or simple habit may settle the question. When it does, that is the recommendation.

Commercial transparency

Commission never becomes evidence.

Paid links are labeled next to the recommendation. They do not change what was verified, the limitations we publish, or the alternatives a reader should consider.

Corrections and source questions are welcome

Send the page, the statement in question, and the strongest primary source you found. Substantive corrections are reviewed against the source and noted in the page’s review record. Partnership inquiries are welcome too, but editorial conclusions are not for sale.
